Bringing education to hard-to-reach areas of Nepal

UNESCO’s Capacity Development for Education (CapED) Programme has been active in Nepal since 2008. The Programme supports the country develop literacy and lifelong learning for all through better policies and non-formal education services, with a particular focus on women and girls.

According to the World Bank about 80 percent of Nepal's people live in rural areas and depend on subsistence farming for their livelihoods. in 2014 there were an estimated 6.2 million Nepali farmers living in rural poverty. Here is one farmer's story:

"At times, it was difficult. We were only sustaining. Production was enough only for the family and could not be sold for household expenses. There was no money for children's education. This is the reason why I could not study."

Khim Bastola grew up in the mountain areas near Pokhara, Nepal. As a child he needed to work on his family's farm instead of going to school in order to provide food for his family. As a result, he did not complete his primary education and lives on the edge of poverty.

ASC is a non-profit,non-religious, non political organization working for welfare of people. It is working for the economic development, social justice, lobby and advocacy since its establishment. It is formally registered in District Administrative Office, Kathmandu and also registered in Social Welfare Council.

A School for Community (ASC) is an innovative concept for developing community as an open learning and sharing centre. The trend of exposures held in Southern Region of Kathmandu region especially from educational, health and community development sectors from different district and villages of Nepal has encouraged us to develop this new concept for defining the community itself as a school and community people as teachers.

MenstruAction Nepal: Short video

Video Documentary on Menstrual Health and Hygiene intervention implemented in Bidur Municipality of Nuwakot District. With financial and technical support from S2HSP, this intervention was implemented by Visible Impact, focusing on creating menstrual friendly, sustainable and enabling environment at public and private schools of Bidur Municipality . Main highlight of the intervention was developing social champions on Menstru Action at schools who can train and create multipliers at the school and community.
